In a society where we want everything quicker, faster, and immediately, it is no surprise that energy boosting drinks have become so popular. There is a variety of energy drinks with a variety of components, some better than others and some that have been found to be rather dangerous. Many of those drinks have a heavy content of caffeine and other stimulants to help you boost your energy and alertness.
We all need a pick-me up once in a while, but if you are relying on heavy doses of caffeine regularly you might need to examine why you need to do that to function. You might consider that if your body is tired there might be some underlying causes for it, and in failing to listen to the signs of your body you are failing to connect with the needs of it. Could it be that you are not getting the right nutrients, not sleeping enough or stressing yourself too much among other myriad of possibilities? It might be easy to bypass the body’s signals and get it moving when it does not want to cooperate, but in the long run this is probably not a smart choice.
There are some great ways to give your body a pick me up that don’t involve super- caffeinated beverages. They might not be an immediate fix, but your body’s energy level will rise in a more holistic way. One wonderful way to pick up your energy level even when you are feeling very tired is to insert little spurts of movement throughout the day. Walking for few minutes at a time will help your energy level, will clear your mind, help you de-stress, help you sleep better and will perhaps even help you make better food choices.
It is hard to think about moving when you are tired, but inserting little boosts of movement throughout the day will help your energy level rise. Even 5 minutes of walking every so often can make a big difference in your energy level in your day. If even that feels like too much, because you feel extremely fatigued or because your day won’t allow for that, then you can always do some stretching and/or deep breathing. Walking, stretching and focused breathing are all important components of a balanced lifestyle, so every bit that you can add to your day helps.
If you are working with your breath you can take a few moments to do something as simple as focusing on it. Alternatively, you could start with the exhalation and do it for as long as you can and when you can no longer breathe out you can take a breath in. There are many other choices but those are some simple ones.
If you are going to go with stretching then some good stretches to do are the ones that reverse those positions that we are in through the day that keep our neck and shoulders hunched forward, and our backs tight. You can simply think about the position opposite than the one that feels tight. Many people will need to stretch their pectorals (chest stretch), do some neck stretches and lengthen the back of the thigh (hamstring stretch) and perhaps the lower back. Holding the stretches for 20 to 30 seconds can be very helpful.
I hope that you will find those tips helpful and that you will have an energized day!!
